Apiezon and Laboratory Applications

Synonymous with quality, Apiezon greases and Q Compound are commonly used in scientific instruments and general equipment with laboratories around the world. These applications require high levels of precision and it is vital to choose a compatible product that does not give rise to contamination.

Apiezon greases are silicone-free, hydrocarbon based and highly resistant to creep, the undesirable phenomenon associated with silicone-based products. For many years Apiezon greases have been successfully used in instruments such as infrared or mass spectrometers because scientific users need assurance that there will be no sample contamination, interference or clouding of the lenses.

The Apiezon greases offer excellent performance for a wide range of vacuum applications and temperatures. The greases can also absorb unwanted impurities because of their powerful 'gettering' action which is particularly important when scrupulous cleanliness is required.

Apiezon greases are suitable for general laboratory applications such as sealing glass joints in quick fit apparatus or in desiccators. The greases tend to be very tenacious and confer excellent cohesive strength which helps to eliminate loose fitting glassware and the risk of mated joints working loose.

In addition to the greases, Apiezon Q Compound is often used in laboratories. Q Compound is a temporary vacuum sealant that is utilised as a short term solution when it is not immediately possible to dismantle apparatus for repair. As well as being an excellent waterproof medium, Q compound is easy to use and extremely simple to remove.
